Turtle Haven: A Snorkeling Adventure on the Northeast Side of Gili Meno

Ready for a turtle encounter? Our snorkeling guide took us to the northeast side of Gili Meno to search for these gentle sea creatures. Although there's not much coral or reef in the area, it's a deep, flat spot that's a favorite resting place for turtles. They come here to rest and munch on some jellies.

This site is also used for scuba training, with a few small obstacles and structures on the seabed. And we were in luck! We spotted two turtles in just 20 minutes at this snorkeling spot. But, we didn't want to stay too long as the water was filled with small stinging jellies. Although they're not dangerous, they can be a little itchy and annoying.

Gili Trawangan Snorkeling Locations

Ready to hit the waves on the Gili Trawangan shore? Good news - you've got plenty of stunning snorkeling spots to choose from! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced swimmer, you're bound to be amazed by the colorful coral reefs and diverse marine life just waiting to be explored.

Gili Trawangan Snorkeling From Beach – Trawangan Slope

If you're looking for a relaxed and easy-breezy snorkeling adventure, Gili Trawangan's got you covered. With numerous snorkeling locations conveniently marked along the main east road, you won't have to worry about finding the perfect spot. Just follow the signs to "Turtle Point" and you're good to go.

One of the most accessible spots for snorkeling on Gili Trawangan is right off the beach across from Villa Almarik. Dubbed as the "Trawangan Slope," this official dive site is perfect for both beginners and seasoned snorkelers. Here, you can swim out to the drop-off and dive right in to discover the vibrant coral and marine life below. Don't be surprised if you come across several sea turtles munching away on some food in the shallows.

Just remember, take care of the reef and avoid stepping on any coral, and you're guaranteed to have a fantastic snorkeling experience on Gili Trawangan.

Turtle Point Gili Trawangan

Have you ever dreamed of swimming with sea turtles in their natural habitat? Look no further, because the real Gili Trawangan Turtle Point awaits you! Located on the northeast tip of the island, this snorkeling spot offers the chance to spot these magnificent creatures swimming freely in the open waters.

Although the coral and fish population might not be as abundant as other snorkeling spots, the main attraction here is the turtles. During our 20-minute swim, we spotted three of these gentle giants gliding gracefully along the sandy flats. So pack your snorkeling gear, put on some sunscreen, and get ready for a turtle encounter like no other!

Shark Point GIli Trawangan

If you're looking for an exciting underwater adventure, then Shark Point in Gili Trawangan is the perfect place for you! Although it's primarily known as a dive site, you can still swim out and explore the reef on this side of the island even without a scuba tank. Just make sure to visit during high tide and be ready for a thrilling experience!

As you swim out to Shark Point, you'll find a flat reef plateau that sits at about 10 meters, before sloping down to a deeper section. However, keep in mind that this side of the island is more exposed to high winds and swell, so if the conditions aren't ideal, it's better to stick to other Gili Trawangan snorkeling locations.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see any reef sharks on my visit, but I heard that they're more commonly spotted in the deeper sections. So, if you're keen on seeing a reef shark, I'd suggest booking a dive trip. Who knows, you might just have an encounter with one of these magnificent creatures!

And that's it for the top snorkeling spots in the Gili Islands. If you come across any other amazing places, don't forget to share it with me!
